I was born-and-raised on Prince Edward Island, but have spent several years living in other Candian provinces while attending universty and/or working. My counselling practice began part-time in 2008 while working as a Career Counsellor, and in 2014 I went into private practice full-time. I’m passionate about the counselling profession, and about holistic health and wellness, particularly as it relates to mental health. My educational background includes a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from the University of New Brunswick, a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Dalhousie University as well as a Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Prince Edward Island. Prior to counselling, I worked in health education and promotion, and previous to that I managed a school-age child care centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. In addition to my academic education, I regularly pursue professional development training to enhance my knowledge and skills so I can continue providing high quality, professional counselling services to my clients. Recently my professional development has been focused in the area of trauma. In 2017 I completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training and became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and started a small yoga business called Fundamental Yoga. I've been running my own classes ever since, which are held at the Beaconsfield Carriage House. In 2019, I completed certification in Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy (TIYT™). TIYT™ promotes improved self-regulation and symptom management for anxiety, trauma/PTSD, depression, addiction issues and more. Combining the philosophy of yoga and meditation with my counselling skills and health sciences background gives me a unique perspective regarding mental health and wellness, and makes my career a dream come true!
